Common Good

Common Good contributes to South Africa's development by empowering local grassroots organisations to invest in individuals from childhood through to employment. Our goal is to prepare people to thrive economically, support their families, and contribute positively to their communities.

We are a faith-based (but not faith-biased) development organisation that drives grassroots transformation in South Africa. Founded by Common Ground Church in 2005, Common Good operates as an independent non-profit and public benefit organisation. At the core of our mission is the belief that God deeply cares for South Africa and desires a groundswell of mercy and justice in action.

Through strategic alliances with churches, NGOs, schools, government, and other organisations, we cultivate ecosystems of hope, demonstrating that a shared, brighter future for South Africa is achievable. We don't just create solutions; we develop sustainable, research-driven initiatives at critical life stages that are scalable, replicable, and have proven impact.

Our focus is on three key areas:

  1. Early Life: Specifically the First Thousand Days (from conception to two years old), where early intervention can significantly alter life trajectories.
  2. Education: Supporting meaningful educational initiatives.
  3. Employment: Equipping individuals with the tools needed to enter and thrive in the workforce.

We also support churches in their unique role of addressing injustice and embodying a life of justice.

Our strategy centres on supporting local community leaders, organisations, and churches that best understand their own contexts. By providing tools, resources, programmes, and partnerships, we amplify their efforts to create lasting change. This approach allows us to operate effectively at scale, addressing systemic issues with a long-term, developmental response.

We’re committed to tackling the roots of injustice and swimming upstream to confront these challenges at their source.
