SCB’s work is focused on three key areas:
1. Early Childhood Development (our flagship project)
Our Early Childhood Development programme takes an integrated approach to the first six years of a child’s life. It combines nutritional support, help for primary caregivers, access to social services, and early learning stimulation.
We manage and run Ikhaya Labantwana Montessori (ILM), a preschool that has become a model of excellence in our rural area. Sixty children attend ILM, with more on the waiting list. Each child receives two nutritious meals a day and is dewormed twice a year.
2. Education and Youth Development
We support local youth to finish school and access further education or training – setting them up for work, independence and the ability to support their families. Our goal is to grow confident, capable young people who become role models for others in the Coffee Bay community.
3. Rural Assistance
In rural areas, getting services that are easy to access in cities can be a serious challenge. We help our community navigate these obstacles by building strong relationships with the right institutions and walking alongside residents as they deal with systems and red tape.
